Christmas Wish List: Our favorite STEM toys

Since we are all about science over here at Learning with Friends, here is a list of our favorite STEM toys for this 2020 Christmas season.

Watch for updates throughout the day as we monitor Amazon’s Prime Day for you. We’ll post the best deals we find!

PRIME DAY DEAL!

Julia Rothman Collection. This gorgeous collection includes Farm Anatomy, Food Anatomy, and Nature Anatomy, and is a favorite of homeschooling families! Prime members can get a special deal on this collection at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14.

PRIME DAY DEAL!

Trekking the National Parks: Family Board Game. This is another one I have had my eye on for a while. The game has received good reviews because it uses a Price is Right numerical trivia scheme, which allows players of all ages to compete together. Along the way, players learn fun facts about the country’s national parks. A Prime Day lightening deal begins for this game at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday.

PRIME DAY DEAL!

DK Children’s Encyclopedia. I love having a few of these general reference books on my shelves for those moments when we are wondering aloud and are ready to find an answer. Sure, we do use Google to look up some things some of the time, but having a beautiful book to pull just leads to further discovery! I find when we look up an answer on the Internet, that’s usually where the conversation ends. A book keeps the discussion going! This encyclopedia will be a lightening deal at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14.

PRIME DAY DEAL!

Space! The Universe as You’ve Never Seen it Before. As with most Smithsonian publications, this one does offer an evolutionary view of the origins of the universe. What is valuable here are the beautiful images and other space facts, as another vibrant reference book to keep on the shelf for your space lovers. This version goes on a lightening deal at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14.

For a deeper dive into the Origins of the Universe from a Biblical perspective, check out our special 5-week hands-on Origins Bundle, which tackles these big questions head on in a fun and approachable way as an introduction to the topic.

PRIME DAY DEAL!

Magnetic Iron Filings. With the Prime Day deal, this is a decent price on a neat addition to your at-home science supplies. While our Science with Friends Chemistry Bundle requires common household items only, there are a few really neat things you can do with these iron filings, if you have them on hand. We share those additional experiment options in our bundle.

PRIME DAY DEAL!

VATOS Board Magnetic Kids Game. Explore the science of magnets through play! My children loved this set and found many creative ways to explore magnetism for many years using these simple pieces.

PRIME DAY DEAL!

15 percent off AmScope Microscopes

52-piece Kids Beginner Microscope. Having a working microscope as a resource is a great discovery tool. We spontaneously explore all kinds of nature finds from the algae-infested pool water (yikes!) to the biological details of changing leaves. This microscope does a great job giving you a close up look without the huge price tag.

PRIME DAY DEAL!

Microscope Slide Collection. This 48-pack of prepared microscope slides include plant, animal, and insect specimens. This collection is the best value I found for similar microscope products.

PRIME DAY DEAL!

Prime Climb board game. This math board game has players racing to get to 101 first through multiplication, division, and prime factorization. Game play is endless, since every round is completely different! Goes on sale through Amazon at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13.

PRIME DAY DEAL!

25 percent off hand2mind STEM kits

Hand2Mind Stem Kits. With kits ranging from rocket launchers to magnets to owl pellet dissections, these engineering and science kits are a good deal when they are on sale.

Snap Circuits kits. With these kits, kids can design close circuits that actually work, exploring the science behind electricity in a safe, but exciting way.

Nonzers Kids Science Experiment Kit. What is cuter than a real lab coat with goggles and test tubes? Add some extra fun to your Science with Friends experiments by dressing the part!

Smartivity Fidget Digit Multiplication Machine. I love this build-it-yourself multiplication game as a fantastic way to practice those multiplication tables on their own, going beyond flashcards.

SmartLab Toys Mr. Squishy. We’ve shared our love for Mr. Squishy before, and he remains one of our favorite STEM toys to pair with our Science with Friends Anatomy Bundle.
